Praise Jehoviah! CNN has finally seen the light and dumped DL’s show. Though the official reason for the cancellation was that Hughley wanted to be closer to his family, I think hope it had to do with the fact that the network decided to take the “CNN” out of COONING.
Either way, I’m happy again. CNN is on the road to redemption.

I actually thought it was pretty funny. A good counter to the Daily Show and Colbert Report.
Um…Greg, dear? Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are on COMEDY Central, not CNN. Comedy Central = humor. CNN = (at least ostensibly) commitment to the news.
Christmas has come a little early this year. Now all we have to do is get Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne” off the air and we would have struck it rich!
God is truly in the BLESSING BUSINESS!
DL’s stint with CNN was over the moment he said the RNC was like Nazi Germany. The mainstream media doesn’t mind him trying to clown other black folks (i.e. the Rutgers basketball team). Clowning on the RNC? Not so OK.
Hey Dre,
O.K., fill me in. What’s wrong with D.L. Hughley?? I watched his show and even though I didn’t really have much of an appreciation for his brand of humor, I was suprised at his grasp of politics (for a comedian). I don’t much like The Daily Show or The Corbert Report either, but I thought his show was at least as good. Did I miss something?
hey H.C.
yep, you did miss something. you missed that DL isn’t funny–well, only to himself.
@ Greg: A counter to Stewart and Colbert? It was friggin’ CNN! They’re not supposed to counter Comedy Central!
@ Kenya: My point exactly.
@ Cyn: Good luck getting rid of anything Tyler Perry. People LOVE that mess. The other day, I had to sit around a group of people talking about the “genius” of Tyler Perry. I almost threw myself out the window.
@ Tash: God is great, and greatly to be praised! 🙂
@ KC: Though many of the McCain/Palin rallies showcased certain aspects of bigotry and racism, comparing them to Nazi camps was over the line. Good point. But I don’t think CNN would be so quick to defend the GOP, given their liberal bias (don’t be fooled by the platforms given to Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs. CNN is pretty liberal leaning). But I think CNN ultimately just GOT it. One day, it finally hit them that they made a huge mistake. Better late than never, right?
@ HC: DL is an unfunny, stale, racially divisive, baffoon who masquerades as somebody who is insightful. His attempts to be edgy are more self-destructive than they are funny. Between his insults of the Rutgers basketball team, to his general assessment of the “black community”, to having a pimp named Freddie Mac on CNN, I’m done with DL and his insipidness.
@ Sylv: He’s funny to himself and the people he pays to laugh at his jokes.
@ Sylvia,
Thanks, I guess I just never paid that much attention to him. P.S. It’s good to see you around.
@ Dre,
“DL is an unfunny, stale, racially divisive, baffoon who masquerades as somebody who is insightful.” Come on man, don’t sugar coat it, just give it to me straight. Do you like him or not?
@ HC: In a word or two, I can’t stand the dude. OK. That was five. But the point still remains.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Deb, I share in your sentiments. I only hope CNN has learned its lesson for good. But apparently, CNN’s not the only station who gets it. Comedy Central recently pulled the plug on Chocolate News: http://www.blackvoices.com/blogs/2009/03/10/chocolate-news-cancelled-another-show-bites-the-dust/
Maybe black folks can start coming up with UNIQUE and funny shows again. Where’s Dave Chapelle when you need him?
