  1. More evidence that you guys elected the right President. Once again, my deepest heartfelt condolences for the tragedy of Newtown but I agree with you that this is part of the greater tragedy that is engulfing the whole of USA including the inner city. President Obama gets that. And now he has called for meaningful action on guns. He is showing the leadership. May he be successful in seeing through meaningful and lasting action to reduce the kill rate from guns.

  2. Unfortunately, in the NRA-controlled USA, this can happen anywhere, anytime, to anyone, and they celebrate this “right”. Who’s next? You? Your children? The appalling, obscene glut of weapons in the country makes each of us completely vulnerable.

We’ll never get rid of all the guns, but couldn’t we make some start at controlling these semi-automatic and automatic guns whose ONLY purpose is to massacre large numbers of human beings?

  3. Whoever said that is WRONG! Tragedies like this can AND DO happen anyway and anytime. It happens in the cities, suburbs, and rural communities. As long as the NRA is allowed to control the legislature, count on people dying from a gun EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It may only one, ten, or a hundred people. But rest assured SOMEBODY will die by the only legal consumer product designed specifically to kill. Laws must be changed and at a minimum assign civil liability assigned to the manufacturer and seller of the gun. I bet background checks and their length will improve dramatically if that happens. We can hold a bar tenders/owners accountable for using poor judgement in serving a patron too much alcohol (which is not designed to kill). Why not do the same for using poor judgement in selling something specifically designed to kill to someone who should not have it. If they deem the person qualified to own the gun, then let them assume the responsibility!

  4. ‘This Kind Of Thing Doesn’t Happen, Ever’

    Apparently, it does.

If Americans would just broaden their worldview a bit and consider the United States as their community — which it certainly is — this kind of professional, systematic denial would cease to exist, as would these confused reactions after the fact.

  5. Hey Dre,
Can we please put the truth to the damn lie being propagated by the leftstream media? Violent crime IS NOT GOING UP in the U.S. In fact, it’s been trending down for some time. It has also been going DOWN since the Assualt Weapon Ban expired. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-1 Ask yourself, “Why does the media have to lie to support their agendas?” The only places that crime has been going up is in completely Democrat controlled cities that are seeing record homicides. http://www.forbes.com/sites/danielfisher/2012/10/18/detroit-tops-the-2012-list-of-americas-most-dangerous-cities/ How can they cure the problem when they refuse to EVER opoint at tghier own constituents?

  6. *point at their own constituents. (don’t know why, but I can’t see what I’m typing passed
    the first three lines)

  7. Merry Christmas Everyone! Thanks to all of you for allowing me to rant and rave here, especially Andre who has been an exceptional friend. It is our diversity of both thought and culture that will make us strong in the future. Although we may disagree on occassion, it is these discussions that help us understand one another-it is that gift that I thank you for with all my heart. May God bless you and yours! H.C.

  8. Well I, for one have enjoyed your “ranting and raving.” Its been a good source of information and a way to keep the conversation alive and active. Keep it up!

Happy new year to you all!

    • Thanks, K.C.,
And I appreciate you keeping me on my toes and expect you to continue. If we can respectfully disagree, maybe there’s still hope for congress! (I’m overly optimistic today for some reason). Happy New Year!

  9. Once again, a tragedy of epic proportion has devastated the country. So many young lives pointlessly taken. The perpetual conversation surrounding gun control keeping our minds dizzied.

  10. What took place in Newtown is tragically horrific; no doubt. Additionally, I’m convinced that if the teachers and children had been Black, there would not be such outpouring of grief and support. If the situation had taken place in an inner city school, and the crime committed by a Black shooter, every ugly pathology re: Black people would agree been articulated.
