  1. Oliver Stone is controversial in almost every project he helms, so I expect this undertaking to be no different. However, unbiased? I don’t knoooow….but here’s what he has to say about it:

“Here, I’m the referee, and I want a fair, true portrait of the man,” Stone told Variety. How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world? It’s like Frank Capra territory on one hand, but I’ll also cover the demons in his private life, his bouts with his dad and his conversion to Christianity, which explains a lot of where he is coming from. It includes his belief that God personally chose him to be president of the United States, and his coming into his own with the stunning, preemptive attack on Iraq. It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors.”

Being a cinephile (& geek), I’ve read most of the script (it’s floating around online). While it definitely has it’s flaws (namely the substantial focus on W’s many rifts w/ the elder Bush, IMHO), the casting is top notch & this trailer proves it.

  2. I’m with you Nic. I simply can’t see where subjectivity can be accomplished; especially in a medium outside of a documentary. This Hollywoodized version of the Bush chronicles is sure to have its shortcomings. How will the questionable elections of 2000 and 2004 be depicted? The decision-making process leading up to the war? The appointment/firing of cronies? I can’t imagine that the consultants who helped formulate the script were without their biases; whether they were for or against the protaganist.
